Freestyle Workshop – July 15, 2018

July 15 @ 8:30 am 5:30 pm

SAVE THE DATE! This one day workshop takes you through a variety of Total Immersion drills & numerous strategies that will help result in a freestyle that is faster, easier & more efficient. I will give you the fundamental tools you need to know, so you can practice with a new sense of awareness & confidence in the water. You will have the opportunity to see precisely how you swim & all video will be uploaded to Dropbox for your viewing after the clinic, including instructor comments to remind you of your strengths & opportunities for improvement. I am a Level 3 TI coach & have worked with athletes from complete beginner to professional triathletes. I will be assisting you in & out of the water. This clinic is appropriate for any ability level with a reasonable comfort in the water. I will teach you the basic key skills of Fishlike Freestyle: 1. Co-operate with Gravity – Most swimmers fight gravity trying to stay on top of the water. I teach you to find your natural equilibrium by sinking into weightlessness. Learning to relax into the water breaks the “survival-stroking” cycle, and frees your arms and legs for their best use. Besides, gravity is a powerful natural force; doesn’t it make more sense to use it than fight it? 2. Take the Path of Least Resistance – Once you understand that you must swim through the water — and mindful that water is almost 800 times denser than air — it’s logical to focus more on how well you streamline than how you pull and kick. I’ll teach you to shape yourself to cut through the water like a torpedo by alternating a right-side-streamline with a left-side-streamline. With this fundamental skill each stroke will move you farther and faster with less effort. 3. Swim with your Whole Body – Traditional thinking about swimming treats the body as having an “arms department” that pulls you forward and a “legs department” that pushes you forward. In Fishlike Freestyle, you swim with your whole body, with relaxed, rhythmic weight shifts, rather than arm-and-leg churning. 4. Breathe Easy – I’ll also teach you the basics about breathing easily as you swim. No more breathlessness, no worries about choking. The air is free, take all you need. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 30th!! Payment must be received IN FULL by this time. In order to have an effective workshop, spaces are limited, so it’s first come, first serve. Don’t miss out! Contact: For any other questions please contact TI Coach Lorna Richardson at: fluid.movement.site@gmail.com Tel: 424. 235-8431 Schedule: (Subject to minor revisions) Sunday 08:30 – 09:30: Classroom/studio – Intro & swimming stretches 09:30 -11:30: Pool session 1 (1st underwater videotaping & group instruction) Lunch 13:00 – 14:30: Classroom workshop – Video review & dry-land drill rehearsals 14:30 – 16:30: Pool session 2 (Final video taping & group instruction) 16:30 – 17:30: Video review before & after, Q&A & wrap-up WHAT TO BRING:  For the classroom: Medical Release form sent to you upon registering & pen/pad for note taking. For the pool: An extra swimming costume & towel if you want dry ones for the afternoon swim, and a pair of goggles. I recommend that male students wear a Speedo-type brief or close-fitting triathlon swim shorts, rather than loose-fitting swim trunks, which can make balance even more of a challenge & is also better when reviewing video footage.   TUITION: £200p/person or £190 each if 2-3 register & pay together.
